A pre-wash treatment for the lengths. Seven carrier oils led by coconut, with two essential oils. Applied before the shower to help protect the fibre from water damage during washing.

What it does

No 02 is the length step. Applied to dry hair before the shower, it treats the fibre — cuticle and cortex — rather than the scalp. The formula is built around coconut oil, whose dominant fatty acid (lauric acid) has the shape and size to pass into the hair shaft, unlike mineral oil or sunflower oil. This is the mechanism behind pre-wash oiling, a practice ancestral across South Asia and the Levant. Seven carrier oils in total (sweet almond, grapeseed, castor, avocado, coconut, olive, argan) plus lavender and rosemary essential oils, and vitamin E. Anhydrous. No preservatives needed. Applied to dry hair for two hours minimum, then washed out with shampoo before adding water.

How to use

1. Apply to dry hair before showering.
2. Work through from roots to tips for a full treatment. Fine or oil-prone hair — start mid-length and keep it off the scalp.
3. Leave for two hours minimum. Overnight for best result.
4. Wash out gently — see instructions below.

Dosage

2–4 ml for shoulder-length hair — a small pool in the palm, not a handful. Overdosing is the most common customer mistake in this category.

Frequency

1–2 times per week, before washing.

How to wash it out

Do not wet hair first. Apply shampoo directly onto dry, oiled hair and work through until it turns milky (the emulsion forming). Only then add water and lather. Rinse. A second short shampoo is normal, especially on fine hair.

The story

Most oils sit on the outside of the hair. Coconut oil does not. Lauric acid — the dominant fatty acid in coconut oil — has the right shape and size to enter the hair shaft. Mineral oil and sunflower oil cannot. This is why oiling before you wash matters: an oil inside the shaft reduces how much water the fibre takes up during washing, which reduces the cumulative damage cycle called hygral fatigue. This is the reason the product is called Pre-Wash.
